Posting Messages and File Attachments to the Richmond OWL
You may want to print these instructions.

Part One: Posting Messages
After you have logged on to WebBoard, you will see two divisions on the screen. On the left-hand side of your screen, you see current conferences in the class:

To open the conference in which you want to post a message,
click on the + sign beside the conference name:

You can also expand the list of topics that have been posted under a particular subject. Below, Melissa Shelly has replied to Joe Essid's message "My test from my desk":

You are ready to post a message at this point. You could click on the title of Melissa's or Joe's messages, and the message would appear on the right-hand side of the screen.

When you click on a topic and read the message, you can either reply to the message, as Melissa did above, or you can create your own topic in the conference, as Pete and Kim did.

Let's assume that you wanted to post a new topic, instead of replying to an existing topic (replying works in almost the same way, so this tutorial will not cover it).

Click on the "POST" button above the message you are reading or on the black command bar at the top of the screen. You will see this:

Part Two: Posting File Attachments
WebBoard permits users to post files to the board. The WebBoard software also automatically scans for viruses in files posted. You may post MS Word or other files, but be SURE to end the Word file with .doc, so the software for the person downloading your file will be able to read it.

To post an attachment, post or reply to a message normally, and check the "attach file" box:

After clicking "post" in this window and the window that follows it, you will see this window for attaching the file:

Choose the options appropriate for your file--"document" for Word files in our example. Then click "browse"and locate the file on your diskette or hard disk. Then click "Upload Now":

After this step, WebBoard returns to reading the message just posted. Note that clicking on the attached file icon will download it to your local computer:
