English 103: Course Requirements & Guidelines

What is English 103?

Eng. 103 provides a gateway for students with high-school notions of writing to move beyond personal writing and opinion to writing nuanced and well supported work for academic audiences.

Our university catalog describes 103 as an "Introduction to critical reading, thinking and writing across disciplines. Students must complete English 103 with a grade of C (2.0) or better to meet Communications I, Expository Writing general education requirement and receive credit toward graduation."

That only begins to tell the story of this important class. This site is designed to provide 103 teachers with a comprehensive and flexible set of materials and ideas online, to guide their teaching and assessment of writing.
