About the Fix-It Shop:This scenario presents one of the most challenging ethical dilemmas faced by peer tutors. We all have met writers who, while feigning cooperation, ask us to cross the line and do their writing for them. The answers are not easy, and they vary depending upon the writer's intention: active manipulation, fear of not being able to do the work well, belief that the tutor is a writing expert who can produce a "perfect" essay. While Siobhan is trying to convince Luke to provide unethical (and for our university, honor-code breaking) assistance, Luke employs a number of different strategies. Some work while others are disasters-in-the-making.
