Paper Six

Topic:Coming from your work for Paper 5, you must complete a multi-step research project on a topic of your choice relating to technology and communication.

A tiny incentive to write about Second Life: Mr. Carleton and I are writing an academic essay about the "game." We would cite you by name, as appropriate, in our own work.

You may include a research log using your discussion board or even a notebook. This is a great way to keep track of your successes and wrong turns. Let me know when, during the process, that you need feedback on the log. I'll give participation credit for this part of your project.

Take a look at Dr. Whitehead's guide online for this project as you do your research.

Source Requirements for the Final Project: at least 12 sources (including any of the six that helped you with paper 5) but not including our texts from class. No need to annotate these as you did for paper 5.

Of these 12, at least:

  • one source must come from a book-length work (originally in print; could be online now)
  • two must originate in scholarly journals, not popular magazines
  • three others must originate in popular or general publications that were originally in print

    Audience: Me, the Writing Fellows, and your editing group.

    Format: at least 3000 words (approx. ten pages, double spaced), and:

    • Use MLA format for all sources quoted or paraphrased; see our guide pages on documenting sources and the extended example of MLA format
    • Richmond Libraries' page on MLA sources: http://library.richmond.edu/help/citing/index.htm
    • Include a final "works cited" page
    • For the final draft, include a title page with your name and the title of the essay as the first page of your essay. The title should be a descriptive one that sums up the idea of the paper's thesis
    • Make margins no larger than 1.25" and type size no larger than 12 points in Time or Times New Roman fonts.
